Re: Another RTZ SDM (DSD) DAC
Final layout design pretty much done - when I added the RFI shielding mains inlet I realised there wasn't enough clearance between it and the power transformer boards so they all had to be moved back slightly. This is why we lay out everything in advance kiddies (at least I do, the money that Schaef...

Re: Another RTZ SDM (DSD) DAC
With every build, there is a tedious job that we dislike, for me this is one of them. Painstakingly modelling each PCB board in TurboCAD to map out where all the holes are drilled, so that there is an accurate 'map' to eventually send off to the machinists, and all the board pin headers / sockets wi...

Re: Landrovers...
When I see episodes of Bangers and Cash I have a hankering for an old classic like a P6 - could I deal with the reality? Don't know really. We have a middle-aged Lexus hybrid saloon that fulfils our needs better than any car I've had in the past - 50mpg leather-clad silent waft-tastic luxo-barge tha...

Re: CAD systems...
Bugger - WIndows only. I've been enduring TurboCAD Mac for years to do all my chassis design, it's a bit flaky and crashy at times (oh how I love when it falls over during file saves, irreparably corrupting them in the process) but everything else I've looked at either has an unfathomable interface,...

Re: Another RTZ SDM (DSD) DAC
PCB design done for the power transformers to mount to. All PCB dimensions and hole locations are now known, meaning that I can go ahead and finalise the chassis layout this weekend.

Re: Another RTZ SDM (DSD) DAC
Orders went off to Mouser and Digikey tonight for the Beaglebone board and various bits and bobs like the three power transformers and remaining parts for the Salas power supply. Next I need to design a PCB for soldering the three power transformers onto. Once those get here I should have everything...

Re: Nothing In Particular
Is that a double layered perspex lenco ptp ? Double layer granite Garrard 301. https://www.peakhifi.co.uk/cgi-bin/ecom.cgi?Command=ShowProduct&db_pid=18 The 301 is Ray Clark's 'solid chassis' prototype, so it still has the 301 motor and through-hole fixing bolts unlike the current offerings: ht...

Re: Another RTZ SDM (DSD) DAC
Yikes! :) TBH that won't be for a while yet (and 12AX7's probably don't need 1000V B+). Once this DAC is done, I am going to have to freeze the budget for a time on new projects as we have some matters on the horizon that need to take priority first. So there'll a bit of designing and model...

Another RTZ SDM (DSD) DAC
It's high time I spawned my own RTZ DAC thread so that Ray gets some peace and quiet in his. Current sit-rep. Ray has very kindly lent us the breadboard he recently completed, which has his power supplies and Beaglebone Black, together with a DSD'it PCM to DSD upsampler 'cape' that I have purchased ...

Re: RTZ SDM (DSD) DAC
We got the breadboard up and running tonight and I have to say - WOW!! :D Admittedly I have been rather focussed on vinyl as my main source and a lot of investment has gone in that direction, but digital just took a quantum leap with this DAC. This gets pretty close to analogue for musical involveme...

Re: RTZ SDM (DSD) DAC
Thanks Ray, we'll hopefully get an opportunity to get it installed next week sometime. Looking forward to it. The vinyl replay was (theoretically) slightly sub-optimal, as we are taking the phono stage up to NW Analogue tomorrow and I'd reconfigured the SUT's the previous evening to 1:32 to match th...

Re: RTZ SDM (DSD) DAC
When I soldered the SOIC-8 components onto the linestage PCB, after 'tacking down' the opposing corner legs, I discovered that I got good joints by laying a piece of thin solder across the legs and wiping the iron across the top - you'd think bridges would occur but I didn't get any. The PCB also ha...
