I’ve had an idea like that running around in the back of my head for a while, but I saw this recently which was intriguing:

Re: General health matters.
Ah! With you now. This phone uses facial recognition which copes fine with my current haggard appearance, but Jane’s has a fingerprint scanner that refuses to recognise her fingers but works fine with mine. Fortunately I still have nine left unmodified! Sorry to hear you’re afflicted. Hope it doesn’...

Re: General health matters.
I have to say I’ve no idea, Nick. What should I have? Is this on the Covid app? I’ve never used it. I’m now the only member of my immediate family not to have succumbed to the lurgy. Had my fourth jab last week. Now you come to mention it there were no Covid measures in place at the MIU or at Derrif...

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.
I shoot with folk with £20,000+ guns - I (and they) know that once you've paid a certain amount, mechanically the guns are pretty much identical. However, they choose to pay the extra for nice figured wood and hand engraving etc. It's their choice and I won't deride them for that. Same with HiFi, S...

Re: General health matters.
Thanks guys. Got to sleep at 5. Woke at 7. Thank god I’m retired! I have to wear a sling for a fortnight until the stitches come out which is going to be trying, but on the bright side I still have a finger. I wonder what it’s going to look like? The photos the nurse took are incredibly gory.

Re: General health matters.
On Friday I did probably the stupidest thing I’ve ever done. My Plymouth Pilot (a motorboat, for those not familiar) is powered by a lovely little Beta 10 twin cylinder diesel inboard, which is basically a marinised version of a 660cc Kubota industrial engine, and as such will probably last longer t...

nor can we abdicate all responsibility to the food industry. Indeed. We are ultimately all responsible for our own diet, but the amount of disinformation hurled at us daily is insidious, particularly when food products marketed as health improving are often the worst offenders. The guidance I take ...

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.
For the sake of brevity I probably over-simplified CvT’s findings. Obviously, exercise is good for you, and if you constantly burn mmore calories than you consume over a long period of time, you will burn fat and get fitter, but for most people doing moderate exercise, or taking up a new fad as I su...

Re: The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.
what on earth is the point of spending £5K to 10K on a triathlon bike if you're carrying lots of Kilograms of excess baggage Don’t be too hard on them, Ray. For years we’ve all been fed the lie that exercise burns off fat. It doesn’t. Generally we burn about 2500 calories a day, and if we burn lots...

Re: Zero emission road vehicles.
at 1500 RPM in 2nd or 3rd gear the engine may use the same amount of fuel, but in 3rd gear you will go further so the miles per gallon is better. As said, wind resistance difference would be minimal at those speeds. That’s not what I said, and at 1500RPM in 2nd or 3rd the engine will most definitel...

Re: Zero emission road vehicles.
if the revs are the same at 20mph in 3rd gear as the revs of 30mph in 4th gear isn't petrol consumption more or less the same? No. In your example one would travel 10 miles more in an hour. Hi t MILES per gallon. :) In order to propel you faster the engine has to work harder, so you would have your...
