Tangerine Dream -The Virgin Years 1977-1983
16/44.1 ripped to FLAC. Oh, for a high-res release. But even the redbook sounds rather good.

Re: Mini meet at Steve's on Monday
Excellent afternoon; great to see Steve, Simon & Steve again after far too long. Many thanks for the hospitality as ever & be great to see you in May / June.

Re: Hornresp query - TL design Tool
Too long, too low tuned, not enough damping. Try for Fp = Fs/Qts' where Qts' = Qts including relevant compensation for amplifier output impedance or equivalent series R.

Re: Hornresp query - TL design Tool
A sealed TL is a 1/2 wave pipe in its resonant characteristics as noted, although its nominal tuning will (like a 1/4 wave line) vary with the intrinsic taper ratio as well as length. I rather doubt the B&W Nautilus was significantly more complex in design terms than what I roughly described abo...

Re: Hornresp query - TL design Tool
I can't comment on the Beyma as I haven't looked at it in any detail; with my general hat on, very low Q drive units can offer some flexibilty; it reflects a high conversion efficiency and a lot of electrical damping, which you can always trade off. As is, the Beyma basically looks like a large form...

Re: Hornresp query - TL design Tool
I don't know what version you've got; I'm running the current 54.6 but it's worth updating regularly -saved projects are unaffected: http://www.hornresp.net/ What's the amplifier output impedance? The Beyma's mass corner with a pure voltage source is up at 600Hz based on the published spec., so 80Hz...

Re: Hornresp query - TL design Tool
From the main input window, with driver parameters entered, select the Tools menu & from there, TL Design. For the other -depends how you're defining a 'parabolic tapering line' and '1/2 wave length long' (?).

Re: My Swansong speaker build
It would definitely be 'unfortunate'. ;) Colin and I have talked (purely for a yuk or two) about a more generic, purely passive variation on the theme that could be used in different spaces since the lack of a room-specific active EQ curve frees things up* and a shift in the general configuration th...

Re: New Listening Room
Nice.
FWIW, I suspect the power-response will suit the larger space; if things get a mite confined the top end might seem a touch over-done. That should come down in the bigger room.

Re: Purifi-based monitor - options
Adding a resistor to the shunt cap in a low pass damps the low pass characteristic.

Re: Purifi-based monitor - options
It's crossing about 1.8KHz at roughly the usual -6dB for flat-summing even-order slopes. Sorry, good catch, that's what happens when I have two different screens open at once; wrote out the values from a floorstander I'm fooling with. Should have read 2.2mH, 33uF & 22ohm. Definitely not exact, s...

Re: Purifi-based monitor - options
For whatever it's worth, based on the driver responses & doing a basic minimum-phase extraction, I suspect Troels's filter is something like a primary inductor on the low pass of about 0.82mH - 1mH, with a shunt cap of about 33uF & resistor in the 1ohm - 1.5ohm region, the LCR roughly 1.5mH,...

Re: My Swansong speaker build
Definitely good value in outright terms. Be interesting to remeasure the room acoustics with the additional damping panels & see how this affects the behaviour in the mid-upper bass region. Yes, no reason why we can't improve on the original Jenna design; a decade or so of additional experience ...

Re: My Swansong speaker build
Bit of fun. ;) There's usually too many losses involved, even with a fairly solid brick construction like Colin's, for Helmholtz effects to significantly kick in, although there may be some; standing waves of some kind are quite likely though, and that chimney is evidently having some effect. We'll ...
